This position is designated as part-time. The work schedule will include at least 32 hours per 2-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. This position is not initially eligible for health care benefits.

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides licensed nursing care to Residents at the Minnesota Veterans Home (MVH) and administers medications and treatments to Residents as ordered by the Residents practitioner under the direction of the Registered Nurse. Primary functions include delivery of Resident centered care; delivery of skilled procedures within the LPN scope of practice as defined in the Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, in accordance with current Federal, State and Veterans Administration regulations.

The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. We offer a creative, fun, collaborative, and stimulating work environment that encourages professional growth.

The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Licensed in Minnesota as a Practical Nurse with no restrictions, and in good standing
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross or ability to be certified by date of hire
  • Computer skills sufficient to complete electronic charting, specifically in PointClickCare
  • Ability to communicate effectively, follow instructions, and keep clear and accurate notes and documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Veterans
  • Training in or experience with chemical dependency, mental health, and co-occurring disorders
  • Effective interpersonal skills in establishing and maintaining positive working relationships
  • Experience working with vulnerable adults and maintaining confidentiality

Additional Requirements

This position requires successful completion of the following:

  • A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
  • A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X-Ray is required prior to employment.
  • Employment reference checks will be conducted on all finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
